How do I become a Registered Dietitian? Go to this link: http://www.eatright.org/BecomeanRDorDTR/content.aspx?id=8143

How do I get into the Dietetics Program? Students interested in earning a degree in Dietetics will be accepted into the Department of Health & Nutritional Sciences and then assigned an academic advisor.

What are the educational requirements? South Dakota State University’s dietetics program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition & Dietetics (ACEND) as a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD).  Upon satisfactory completion of SDSU’s dietetics program, you will be eligible to apply for an accredited supervised practice experience, specifically, a dietetic internship.

How do I get into the dietetics program if I already have a degree? If you already have a degree in another area of study, you are still eligible to go through the dietetics program, as long as you meet the requirements for a verification statement.  If you already have a degree, you may do the following to obtain a verification statement:

  • Enroll in the Dietetics program in the Department of Health & Nutritional Sciences and receive a second undergraduate degree.
  • Enroll in graduate school and complete the requirements for a verification statement and graduate courses at the same time.

What is a verification statement? A verification statement is proof of completion of the dietetics program and is the method used by the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics to ensure that specific qualifications for membership, internship applications, or eligibility for the Registered Exam for Dietetics have been met.
